Goals and Values. Correct goals lead to correct behavior
I remember how I guided a patient for quite a while. He did everything I told him to. He bravely endured the trials given to him and prayed a lot. For a while, there would be improvement, but then he would «collapse». I cycled through hundreds of hypotheses and struggled with this problem for a year and a half. Nothing helped.
I would have tackled this problem for 15 or even 150 years. In my entire life, there hasn’t been a single question that I left unresolved, admitting my helplessness. But there's a difference between persistence and accelerating problem-solving. I later realized that if a problem isn’t solved on one level, it means it is solved on another—deeper and more significant. The key is not to stop, but to keep going.
And the solution came unexpectedly and elegantly. I decided to look at his goals and what his subconscious life's purpose was. It turned out to be money and a prosperous fate. Then it all became clear to me.
«You pray, you remove hooks, you go through trials,» I told him, «but in previous years you consistently focused and dreamed of fame and well-being, that you would be above others in terms of ability and talent.
And in your thoughts, you turn to God and pray, thinking about love, but inside you continue to worship the human and make it your main goal. If you can cultivate your soul, your deep emotions in that you live for your Divine 'self,' then human happiness won't be dangerous for you. And, when you have great successes, you won’t scorn or haughtily treat others, those who are below you. And if you have failures and misfortunes, you won’t envy others or despise yourself. Then in human love, you won't need to defend yourself. And you can be open and sincere, like a child.
In true love, the concepts of 'above' and 'below' do not exist; there are no victories or defeats, and people who love each other become helpers to each other in attaining Divine love. Then, losses and gains become merely means to achieving the Divine in the soul. And every action we take strengthens and consolidates the primary impulse. And incorrect value orientations can significantly worsen the consequences of our behavior and vice versa. Correct goals lead to correct behavior.»
