The Right to Happiness: Experiences in Working on the Soul
I'd like to present two examples of how people work on themselves:
First example.
A woman came to me for a consultation because of problems with her daughter. A month later, she was indignantly telling her friend:
«I prayed so hard this month, my daughter should have become a saint by now. And still, I see no results.»
Second example.
Four months ago, a young woman came to my consultation. Her child was diagnosed with autism. I wanted to honestly tell her that this condition is incurable and I hardly could be of help here. One could only hope for some improvement. Then I thought: why say that? It would only hinder both her and me. When you turn to God, any barrier can be overcome. Recently, she came to see me again.
«I'll tell you everything that happened to me», she said. Usually, after your consultation, a person feels a sense of happiness and uplift. I left «green», in a terrible state, and the breakdowns lasted quite long. I tried to pray, but there was no echo in my soul. And for a month, I just dumbly and monotonously prayed as you told me: The main thing is to keep love for God, no matter what happens. Never to blame anyone. Learn to see Divine will in everything. Learn not to kill love when the human crumbles, learn to preserve love when you lose the dearest. Learn to live by love.
I prayed, but there were no changes. And you know when they began? When I completely reconciled with the fact that my child is autistic and prayed without hoping for or counting on anything. And the child began to change. Two months later, I went to the doctor, and the diagnosis of autism was removed from my child. Another two months passed. The doctor examined the child and said that he sees no signs of developmental delay, meaning the child is completely healthy.
So, I address the readers again. We do not pray to get more money, health, and happiness. We pray to detach and stop depending on human happiness, i.e., we pray to become truly happy.
